The images and objects shown here were created behind the walls of some of the world’s darkest places. Prison inmates receive very little in the way of materials, visual stimulation, or support for their efforts. Yet many of them continue to find image-making to be an important outlet for their creativity and emotions.
All of the works shown here were donated by inmates, not only in Missouri, but many other states as well. The inmates understand that all proceeds from sales will benefit INSIDE DHARMA, a prison outreach program based in St. Louis and working within several eastern Missouri prisons. Recent projects include the St. Louis area resource directory (StartHereSTL.org) and donations of bicycles to ex-offenders residing at the St. Louis Community Release Center.
